Features
Higher Interrupting Rating: THQD breakers generally have a higher interrupting rating, commonly 22 kAIC, compared to the 10 kAIC typically found in standard THQL breakers. This higher rating means they can safely interrupt larger short-circuit currents.
Thermal-Magnetic Trip: Like other Q-Line breakers, THQD models utilize a thermal-magnetic trip unit to provide protection against both overloads (thermal) and short circuits (magnetic). They have a fixed long-time and instantaneous trip function.
Bolt-On Mounting: THQD breakers typically feature a bolt-on mounting, securing them directly to the bus connections in load centers and lighting panels. This differs from the plug-in design of THQL breakers.
Durability and Reliability: The case of THQD breakers is constructed from heat-resistant thermoset for enhanced stability and structural integrity. They also have tin-plated copper stabs to ensure reliable and corrosion-resistant connections.
Safety Features: They incorporate the Q-Line's standard safety features, including quick-make/quick-break mechanisms, common trip bars, and an easy-to-spot trip indication (trips to the center position).
Compatibility: They are compatible with Westinghouse, Challenger, and Bryant load centers. They are also compatible with Type AQ and AQC panel boards.
Voltage and Amperage: THQD breakers are available in various amperages and are rated for 240 VAC systems. Some models can also be used in 120 VAC and 120/240 VAC applications.
Wire Compatibility: They are designed to accommodate a range of copper and aluminum wire sizes. For example, a 30A model may accept 14 to 8 AWG copper wire and 12 to 8 AWG aluminum wire.
Certifications: THQD breakers are ANSI certified and UL and CSA listed, indicating they meet relevant safety and performance standards. They also qualify under federal government specification WC-375B. Many models are HACR rated.
