Pre-owned Oxford Hitachi Vulcan Smart Handheld LIBS Gun for PMI Testing and Scrap Metal Sorting

The Oxford Hitachi Vulcan Smart is a handheld LIBS gun that performs laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy for fast, on-site elemental analysis. Built for positive material identification (PMI) and alloy grade verification, LIBS extends detection to light elements such as carbon where XRF can be limited. The Vulcan Smart is tailored for scrap metal sorting, incoming inspection and field PMI work — a tool for recyclers, fabricators, inspectors and maintenance teams who need rapid alloy ID in seconds.

Key Features

• Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) chemistry for light and heavy element detection including carbon sensitivity.
• Compact pistol-grip form factor and touchscreen interface for single-hand operation and easy library access.
• Onboard alloy/material library and PMI-focused software for rapid grade identification and pass/fail sorting.
• Fast, near-instant analysis workflow — results displayed in seconds for high-throughput sorting tasks.
• Rechargeable battery pack and ruggedized build for field use; data export via wired or wireless connectivity.
• Designed for portability and repeatable spot testing across varied metal surfaces and scrap material streams.

Applications

Positive material identification (PMI) and verification; scrap metal sorting and grade segregation; incoming material inspection at mills and foundries; quality control for metal fabrication and maintenance inspections in the field.
